Bisi Bele Bath



Hot - Lentil - Rice Dish.

Oh no we are not bringing up anything new. We bring you one of the famous dishes all the way from Karnataka. Bisi Bele Bath. This spicy dish originated in Mysore place and stayed in the palace for a century and took about a couple of them to spread across the state. 

We got this 300 years old recipe and made it easy for our chefs so that it takes about three minutes to go through the recipe. Let's go.

Total Cook Time - 60 mins - Serves - 4

Requirements:

For Pressure Cooker

Toor Dal - 1/2 Cup

Rice -1/2 Cup

Turmeric - 1/4 tbsp

Oil - 1tbsp

Water - 3cups

For Bisi Bele Bath

Oil - 2tbsp

Ghee - 2tbsp

Mustard - 1tbsp

Hing - a pinch

Peanuts - 2tbsp

Curry leaves - A few

Onion - 1/2 chopped into cubes

Carrot - 1 chopped 

Potato - 1 chopped into cubes 

Peas - 2tbsp 

Beans - 5 chopped

Tomato - 1/2 chopped

Turmeric - 1/2 tbsp

Tamarid extract - 1/2 tbsp

Bisi Bele Bath Masala - 3tbsp

Chili Powder - 1tbsp

Salt - 1tbsp

Water - 5Cups

For topping

Ghee - 2tbsp

Cashews - 2tbsp


How to Cook?

  • Take a pressure cooker and pour the toor dal, rice, turmeric and oil into it.
  • Pour in 3 cups of water to it and let it on the stove. After 5 whistles bring it down and keep it aside.
  • Now take a Kadai add oil, ghee 2tbsps each and let it heat. Add some mustard, a couple of dried red chilies, pinch of hing, peanuts and curry leaves. along with these add the chopped onion and sauté it lightly.
  • Add chopped carrot and potato to this along with beans, tomatoes and 1/2 tbps of turmeric and salt. Sauté until the vegetables soften a little.
  • Pour 3 cups of water and boil until the vegetables are well cooked.
  • Now add 3tbsp of Bisi Bele Bath Masal, chilli powder and salt 1tbsp each. wait until the spices are well cooked well.
  • Now add the cooked dal-rice into the kadai along with 1tbsp of salt and 2 cups of water. Mix everything adjusting the consistency.
  • Cover the kadai and let it simmer for about 10 and let the flavor infuse the dal-rice.
  • Meanwhile take a small thick bottom vessel and pour 2tbsp ghee into it. Fry the cashews in it until they turn golden brown.
  • Once the rice gets ready top it with the fried cashews.
  • Serve this steaming hot Bisi Bele Bath cold Boondi Raita.
